Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my current phone number?
If it’s a US number, yes. You can move it to Tether Mobile for free from your dashboard. You’ll need your account number, transfer PIN and a recent bill from your current carrier. For other countries, you get a new number. Add it to your important accounts before you move.
When should I set up my number?
A few weeks before you move, while your current phone can still receive the codes you need to change your account details.
Which country should my number be in?
The country your accounts are in. Many people keep a number in the country they’re leaving for banks and government services, and add one where they’re moving. All your numbers share one SMS allowance.
Do I need to be in my number’s country to receive texts?
No. Your number receives texts wherever you are, and they reach your apps over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Which countries can I get a number in?
Numbers in the US (real mobile numbers), Canada, the UK and the Netherlands. Need another country? Request a country and we’ll email you when we add it.
How long does it take to get my number?
Most activations take a minute or two. We email you when your number is ready.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your dashboard whenever you like. Your number is removed when your subscription is cancelled.
