Frequently asked questions

Do I need a SIM card or roaming?

No. There’s no SIM card to install and no roaming fee. Any Wi-Fi network or data SIM is enough to read your texts.

Can I have numbers in more than one country?

Yes. Add a number in each country your accounts are in. All your numbers share one SMS allowance.

Can I send texts or make calls?

No. Tether Mobile plans are inbound only: no outgoing texts, replies, calls or mobile data. Your local SIM covers data.

When should I set up my number?

Before your old number stops working, while it can still receive the codes you need to change your account details.

Can I read my texts on more than one device?

Yes. Texts arrive in Email, Telegram, LINE or Discord, so you can read them on any device where you use those apps.

Which countries can I get a number in?

Numbers in the US (real mobile numbers), Canada, the UK and the Netherlands. Need another country? Request a country and we’ll email you when we add it.

How long does it take to get my number?

Most activations take a minute or two. We email you when your number is ready.

How does the SMS allowance work?

Every plan includes 50 SMS a month, shared across all your numbers. Larger allowances cost extra each month.
